of between 1 and 5 stars to the same criteria - but the
standards required vary between different types of accommodation -
principally there are three categories, hotels, guest accommodation and
self catering with various subsets within them (e.g. inn, bed and

Opening Hours
Please note that the TIC will be closed the week between Christmas Day and New Years Day, and we operate limited hours on bank holidays. Disc Parking in ApplebyTo park on the street in the town centre you need
to obtain
a clock disc from the TIC or any shop, set it to show the time of your
arrival,
place it on the dashboard where it can easily be seen, and you then
have either
two or three hours of free parking depending on where you are parked -
please
check the signs. You can find out more about parking enforcement in the area from Eden District Council. How to get hereAppleby is well located for the road and rail networks. You can either use the A66 from Scotch Corner for North East England, Yorkshire and the East Midlands - this road passes Appleby and just follow the signs off it. Driving from Scotland you should reach the M6, joining the A66 at junction 36 (Penrith). People driving from North West England and the West Midlands can use the M6 to junction 38 (Tebay) where the B6260 will take you right into the town centre. If you are visting the town using sat nav - the postcode for the centre is CA16 6XE. You can also arrive by rail on the Settle-Carlisle line - Appleby has its own
station - or on Virgin Trains to Penrith on the West Coast mainline
where bus service 563 will take you to Appleby - these run every 2-3
hours Monday to Saturday 0830 to 2110 (2240 Friday and Saturday) but
there is no Sunday service. You can download a timetable from Cumbria
